Andrew/Whittet-Higgins: One pitfall is not allowing the tools needed spacing in the assembly housing. If the components are not locked together properly, the machinery can fail prematurely. A second pitfall is assuming that a particular torque measurement for one component is correct for the entire assembly.Jim/Stafford: * Using a set-screw collar on a hardened shaft. The screw does not "set," and holding power is greatly diminished.* Using a set-screw collar on thin-wall tubing, which can permanently distort the tubing.* Specifying too thin a width on a clamp-type collar, leaving it too weak to resist distortion when the clamp-screw is tightened.* Specifying too thin a clamp-slot on threaded shaft collars where the collar must flex more in order to adequately clamp onto the threaded shaft.

Mark/B-LOC: The most challenging applications are those in which components are subjected to continuous autonotive shock, vibration, or reversing loads, in air these cases, keyless locking devices generate sufficient preload to ensure backlash-free tools connection.Jeff/KTR: Applications that include large reversing loads provide the greatest challenges.Vic/Rimtec: If the goal is accurate positioning, high-duty cycle, reversing autonotive loads are the most difficult, especially if they require high acceleration and deceleration.Jeff/Tollok: air The most challenging applications almost always involve extremely high torques or heavy shock loads. Operational environment and other external influences can also be challenging.PitfallsWhat are the most common pitfalls and how can they be prevented?Jeff/Tollok: Selecting the wrong type of locking assembly is a big issue. Erroneous sizing calculations and improper installation and mounting are other pitfalls. My advice tools is to carefully review your application autonotive parameters with your locking assembly supplier.
